Nature & Areas Of Interest   Fishing & Outdoors Dvds

Welcome  to Portadown!  This site is dedicated to the promotion of the town I was born and reared in. It will provide images and titbits of info on various subjects from the natural world, history and general lifestyle that is in and around the town and hopefully will give a positive insight to the potential visitor. Portadown is geographically located almost centrally in the North of Ireland just a few miles off the southern shores of the biggest lough in the U.k, Lough Neagh...

One of the major focal points of the town is the famous Bann Bridge and the River Bann which runs through the middle of the town and made it one of the most important inland canal routes for trade due to the opening of the Newry Canal in 1742. These focal points are steeped in history from the towns early development in the 1600's during the British Plantation of Ulster which in itself played a major role in the towns and also the rest of the countries future development.

Currently the town is growing by the week, in education, housing development, employment and by a population surge which is partly due to the current influx of Eastern Europeans seeking work and a new life therefore having a positive effect on the towns booming economy, although some would beg to differ on this particular statement. Whatever the creed or colour, Portadown has a lot to offer and this is there for the taking.

As said above, I will try to include digital images and info of everything and anything as often as I can about subjects and features that are in and around the town that should be referred to, more often to its old nickname, " The Hub Of The North "

Thankyou for coming to my site, feel free to take a look at the rest of the content.
